I think if folks want to use a snorkel, that's great but personally, I don't feel the need for one.

I think that everyone makes mistakes, I do not think I know one single person that is perfect all the time. The OP simply said with a snorkel the swim would have been easier.
Agreed, everytime I have tried to use one diving it has just been awkward. I love free diving but when I am on scuba I leave the snorkel behind.
I dunno about easier, but under the circumstances it would've been more pleasant ... the wall's lovely and with a snorkel you can swim with your face in the water and enjoy the scenery all the way back.
Here at home that doesn't work out so well ... the water's cold and murky so snorkeling is less preferable than just flipping over on your back and kicking till you get where you need to go ...
