The one that cracked me up is Arkansas!! Where's the w in that?
Arkansas pronounced "Ark-an-saw", a relativly rural state located in the south/central portion of the United States. "The Natural State" has two small mountain ranges, the Ouachtia's in the west and the Ozark's in the northwest. We have delta farm land on the eastern side of the state and a pine forest in the south. If you haven't noticed I love this place.

If I can figure out how to load a couple of pictures I'll add them later.

FWIW, there does not have to be a w in the spelling. We like it that way so that's how we say it.

And why is Kansas not pronounced Kensaw?
Guess you'll have to ask someone from Kansas about this one. I suspect it's because they like it that way too. If you want to see some real mind benders look at some of the spelling/pronunciations in Louisiana. The cajuns are really unique. I lived there for four years during college and never got close on many of their words. :D

It took me YEARS to get rid of the Yankee accent and I still get teased by my friends for saying things like:
How the heck did you get a Yankee accent in Atlanta?!?!
