It has been a week; hasn't anyone heard the latest? Search continues? Search called off? Anything?

I've done several searches trying to find more info. All I found were reprints of the same article. We're lucky to have the first report I guess.

I did find the Coast Guard District Eastern Visayas website CGD Eastern Visayas , but there are no notices regarding this accident yet.

Hopefully @xrcjdx will find out more about this sad accident.

Sad, but why would anyone expect that they had a guide. Most dives I have done in the Philippines did not have a guide, in fact I am struggling to think of one that did.

I have the completely opposite experiences!!! Perhaps you can name a few operators who do not provide guide for rec dive?
I have been diving in Philippines over 20yrs from La Union to Davao and the only non guided dives were on some of the tec dives(liveaboard).
Some of the operators might offer non guided house reef shallow dive otherwise guide is usually provided.

I was diving with one of the lost diver's buddies last week in Dumaguete. She was there when he went missing. She asked me not to discuss this in public but I will say that none of the speculation so far is true.

Ok, but that doesn't help much. It would be nice to receive first hand info.

Here is a recent article about the diver and his family Truro mother loses son to the sea

This is very sad. I hope he is found alive & well at a nearby island.

But this also serves as a good reminder that if your buddy is refusing to go deeper (or calling the dive or whatever), you need to listen. We weren't there so who knows what happened, but there have certainly been times when a buddy of mine didn't want to continue or vice versa...& regardless of whether you agree, you have to follow suit. Maybe this wouldn't have made a difference, but maybe it would have.
