FYI,

I did find some GREAT flight prices for Thanksgiving and Christmas weeks! American out of Miami to Curacao with a hop over to Bonaire would run you about $525 pp/RT for Thanksgiving and $575 for Christmas week.

When does the Hilton open? My guess is that might be when the flight returns.

Steve,

From what I understand, Hilton will begin construction 2010, not sure when it will be complete. From what I "hear" the Divi All Inclusive will also be starting construction 2010. Yes, I think this will help, but then again, we are in desparate need of a mid week flight. -

My son works for United and can get really cheap flights from Delta, American and Continental. He is trying to get here on Monday next week, and it is impossible. He says the flights to Curacao are full (American) and it is difficult to get here from Aruba. He would have between 5-8 hours layover in Aruba as a lot of the flights intra island are full. The costs between the islands are also REALLY expensive (DAE). One way for 2 persons is $240.00.

If a regular person paid to go to Aruba then had to fly RT to Bonaire you are talking an additional $240.00 pp! That really adds up!!!

As far as Saturday flights, I REALLY have to encourage the use of Insel Air. The flights are really reasonable, they have a good track record, and people who I have spoken to say the planes are older, yes, but well maintained and the crew atmosphere is similar to Southwest. They also have a lottery each flight giving away a free ticket! They also have a 70 lb bag limit per bag, 2 bags, thats not bad.

I had a guest who wanted to come to Bonaire over Christmas but is now going somewhere else because the flights were $1800 pp RT on another airline...I mean...yikes!!!

Something has to be done....guess it's time to get on my bandwagon again....

I have taken that Cont. flight from Houston and they enforced the 50lb limit for us. We were under so it didn't matter, but if you will be over you might want to print out their policy and take it to show the gate agent, or something like that.

Oh, and somebody needs to come up with more options to the Houston redeye arriving on Bonaire 3 hours before the apartment will be ready!

The rule is that you can have a bag up to 70# if it only contains scuba gear,(not even swim shorts) the catch is the agent has to look up the code and if they are busy they will say the rule is 50# and stare at you like "dumb Ass, move your crap or pay the $25" not real sure why it is so hard to look up, but it took an agent about 10 minutes once but she finally found the code and sent our gear along.

I am beginning to think gate agents get a commission on overweight and 2nd bag fees.

Once I learned that in addition to a carry-on, passengers are allowed a personal item such as a purse, I started carrying a "purse" on each flight. It happens to say Akona on it and I may get grief if they ever look inside.
