While you are in Bandaneira go visit the old fort and museum and then take a tour of the nutmeg farm. We took the tender over and once on land we walked everywhere .(very easily) After the tour of the farm the owners had a huge spread of wonderful tea and many kinds of nutmeg cakes, jams etc.for us to eat. They also had many items for sale afterwards at good prices. We gave up a couple of dives to do the tour and I felt it was well worth it! Have fun!

Here is a picture of the fort and I will put another picture in another post of the food at the nutmeg farm. For some reason when I try to post more than one picture it will not upload??? Bring some money to the fort as street vendors sell pearls, t-shirts etc. here. Also, if you get a chance do the mandarin dive. It was filled with mandarin fish.

Don't forget some rupiah for this tour as well. We bought spices, jams, etc. here!

Thanks SR, however I am not diving with Maluku divers but with Blue Rose, that's my policy : I prefer local .
Talking about gastronomy, I might be pulling your leg a bit though I must say there is a little truth in stating I had my worst experience in NYC. Take it from a true parisian.
Ok serious, I am always in for local culinary attractions that's also probably why we are flying to Bandaneira and looking forward all sorts of nutmeg based delights.

Hello Luko, sorry to hear you had a bad NYC food experience. Bad food can be found even in a big cosmopolitan city, especially when food comes from a kitchen with unsanitary conditions.

I wish I could remember the name of that little orange colored fruit I had in Ambon which had the most amazing sweet and sour taste. And of course, they call them the spice islands for a reason.

I dived with Maluku Divers primarily because they were very helpful when I asked them to source O2 for my group of rebreather divers. I had not heard of Blue Rose, not sure they were in business back then as the island had only been open for tourism again after the war for a year or two before we arrived... -Andy
