Are there any DIY alternatives to buying weight pouches? I have the integrated Zeagle Zena with the rip cord system. Individual weights slip through the semi-open pocket bottom. The pockets cost about $35 for 2. I typically don't dive with more than 6-8 pounds with an AL80 and a 3 mm suit.

What kind of weights are you using? I have a Stiletto and my daughter has a Lazer. Same weight system as the Zena. We just use soft weights and drop them right in the pocket. I could see a bullet weight slipping through, but I can't see how the others can slip through if the pocket is threaded right.

Both of us have used down to 1lb soft weight pouches. I can fit two fingers between the fabric that the ripcord threads through. My 1lb soft weights need at least twice that.

A pair of socks, Royal Crown bags, zip-lock baggies...you can use just about anything in them. Their primary function is to aid in the insert/removal of weights...i.e. Open Water Class. Nothing says you "have" to have them to just dive.

Any heavy duty nylon mesh zippered bag would work. I see them on Amazon for around $10.

i just measured a Zeagle bag - it's about 7" x 7". I think it's the 18lb. capacity bag since it has the velcro divider inside.

Soft weights. I can fit four fingers through mine. Well, three and a half fingers. With a little force/movement, the weights push through. They start in a diagonal position then work themselves out. They don't just fall through.

Thanks! I didn't think I needed them, but I was wondering what the alternatives were and I thought I'd ask the SB knowledge bank. :-)

Thanks, DiverSteve! That sounds like a good solution.

If you can sew you can whip together a couple draw cord bags out of some tough mesh like material pretty quickly.
I have some Seasoft integrated weight bags. For awhile I used the stock container bags ($$), which are much like the Zeagle bags. But they are a minor hassle to get in and out of the pouches as they catch on things. I put together some hard weights of the proper amount using Gorilla tape with a strong cord though a space. Works better than a bag for me.

I bought a Zeagle Ranger prior to a trip to Cozumel about 17 years ago, and I didn't know a darn thing about those pockets when I did. The DM would not let me use the integrated weight pockets because of a fear the weights would drop through. I went to a local dive shop and found they were selling small mesh bags for a few bucks each, and I used them successfully. The BCD has been out of my life for more than a decade now, but I still have uses for those mesh bags.

As others have said, almost anything will do, even a ziplock.

I am pretty sure I have a set of yellow Zeagle weight pouches I don't use. If you would like them and will pay for shipping you can have them.

PM me and I will check to see if I still have them tonight.

That seems like a pretty good deal. Thanks! PM on its way.

Found them.
