Alor: Vis January to March

Hi all

I plan a 3 month trip through "whole" Indonesia next January to March. I would like to dive also in Alor, although there is the rainy season. I know that some dive op are closed, what makes me thoughtful.

did anyone dive these area at that time? How was vis and the waves? Even more current?

I am about to post a trip report.


From what i heard J-M is not a good time to visit. Best bet is to email some of the dive ops there. I was told best time to visit is Oct/Nov & then Apr/may.

Consular and Visa
Visa on Arrival (VOA).

This visa can be applied directly when you are landed at the certain airports and seaport in Indonesia regardless of the purpose of your visits (Business, Tourist, Social). The Visa on Arrival is not a work visa nor a visitation visa. Therefore, it can not be converted, extended or to obtain immigration permit. The maximum stays permitted for the visa on arrival is 30 days.

The general requirements for visa on arrival are:
Expiration date of the applicants passport must be at least 6 (six) months at the date of entry.
Round-trip airplane ticket, and fees
The fees for visa on arrival are:
Visa for stay up to 7 (seven) days = US$ 10,-
Visa for stay up to 30 (thirty) days = US$ 25,-

You may be able to get a Visa for sixty days if you apply outside of Indonesia in Advance.

How long can I stay?
The maximum stay for visitors is normally 60 days, except for the Visa on Arrival which has a maximum stay of 30 days and also certain type of visas given based on approval from the Immigration Authority in Indonesia

Visa issued at the Embassy has a maximum length of stay is 60 (sixty) days, and cannot be extended / transfer.


Anyone have any recent information on where one can get the 60 day Tourist visa in advance of arrival??. Or the best and cheapest way to make a visa run out of the country. I knew some people who a flew a few years ago from Manado North Sulawesi , Indonesia to Davao in the Philippines with the intention of turning around and returning on the same plane that same day to get a new visa on arrival. Don't know how it worked.

Visa: I have to return to Kuala Lumpur after some weeks anyway. so it doesn't matter. The (Indonesian) embassy told me, I can apply for a 2 month visa plus get another one for 30 days (=3 month). Not sure, but I think he should know it?

Probably I will try again to contact a dive operator.
