I'm looking for some input on Allegro Air...

Im planning to head to Coz next month and I found some deals on plane tickets. The deals are with Allegro and the other is thru Apple Vac.

The Allegro ticket is a bit cheaper and but I've never flown with them before. Good? Bad? I've flown w/ Apple before and haven't ever had any major problems (delays, lost luggage, etc..).

Thanks!!

I've not flown Allegro, but have heard a couple of disturbing stories from some who have.

Like you, I've had no trouble with my Apple vacations.

Your call.

Best regards.

I flew Allegro into Cancuun a few years back.

I felt like I was in an "Airplane" movie. I think there might have even been some pet chickens on board in my section. There was no AC, it was terrible for me. I swore I'd never fly with them again... and I haven't yet.
We are flying continental into CZM tomorrow night, and that's my preference.

Allegro is like Sun Trips. Cheap. Crowded. Stuffy. You get what you pay for....

For me? The extra $ is worth not being stuck in a cramp little plane, stuffed to the gills with people and luggage. No room to breathe, stretch. I didn't like Allegro at all.

My 2 cents....

We flew Allegro in April to Cozumel. The gate attendants checked us in early -5:15am. Very pleased with their on time service and smiling flight attendants.
Flight was normal- Ears popping on takeoffs and slight bump on landing. No problems in flight. We arrived early to Cozumel and early back in Dallas with direct flights both ways.

We will definitely fly Allegro on future trips to Cozumel ie. December this year

Hope this helps

Thanks for the input....I made some additional calls and found an AWESOME deal w/ Funjet! I leave in 5 weeks!!! WEEEEEEE!

I was in Cozumel last month using Funjet out of Houston and they used Allegro as the carrier. There were no problems on the flight. There was some slight quality differences between scheduled airlines, but the price was much less.

Last month Allegro flew the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders to CZM for a photo shoot at the Occidental Grand. How could they be bad?????........:)

Those of you using Allegro. Do you have to book through Funjet? Are there better agents to use than others?

thanks for you help. Looking to go back to Coz in Sept or Oct.

Allegro Airlines has only one reported incident. Looks like the pilots had a little snooze enroute to the destination..... See snipet below.

Date: 14 MAY 1996
Type: McDonnell Douglas DC-9-15
Operator: Allegro Airlines
Registration: XA-SNR
Msn / C/n: 45699/8
Year built: 1965
Engines: 2 Pratt & Whitney JT8D-7A
Crew: 0 fatalities / 4 on board
Passengers: 0 fatalities / 42 on board
Total: 0 fatalities / 46 on board
Location: Tampico-Gen F Javier Mina Airport (TAM) (Mexico)
Phase: Landing
Nature: Int'l Non Scheduled Passenger
Departure airport: Orlando International Airport, FL (MCO)
Destination airport: Cancun IAP
Flightnumber: 401
Remarks:
The DC-9 had strayed some 300mls off course on a flight from Orlando to Cancun. Because the aircraft was low on fuel, the crew chose to divert to Tampico. But when the aircraft was 65mls out of Tampico, both engines flamed out. When on finals for runway 31, the gear was lowered. The sudden drag caused higher rate of descent and resulted in the aircraft touching down 300m short of the runway. The nosegear and right main gear collapsed when the aircraft struck concrete plinths of the approach lights.

I've flown to CZM twice on Allegro through Funjet and once on Campion Air through Funjet.

Allegro had smooth take-offs and landings, plane had air conditioning (although it didn't work real well untill the plane took off), landed on time, and all my luggage got there with me.

The only thing I didn't like about it was that the seats are close together so there is no legroom if your 6' tall like me. Not a big deal on a short flight from Dallas, but I wouldn't want to fly any great distance like that.

And for 299.00 p/p for 3 nites in CZM, hotel and airfare...I have no problem tuckin' my knees up under my chin for two hours. :D
