Thanks! That is exactly what I need...current info and impressions.

Another question on the same theme: do we have to book before we get there or do you think we can book while we are actually in Cozumel. Then if DH decides he is happy w/o the all inclusive we don't have to move hotels...but if he still wants to we can book a few days in advance - will that be enough and do you think we will still get a reasonable rate or is the net the way to go early?

I don't think that you'll find a diff in rates between booking ahead on line and booking in person. Of course, I don't see a downside of booking ahead as long as you send no money; if for some reason you don't like the op you book with, you can always cancel and go with someone else.

Changing hotels sounds like a bit of a pain to me, but as I have said in other threads, traveling light is not what we do, so YMMV.

Thanks, Gordon!

Changing hotels is not what I want to do at all, but I am not travelling alone ;) Still not sure which one we will go for but I think your advice of send no money is good...maybe we will get there and DH will just be happy where we are!

I didnt go on the trip due to finances and a very costly vacation planned for later this year but, my LDS had a week trip to cozumel last month. It was $995.00 for the week, it included AIRFARE,(from boston) hotel, all meals, taxes, gratuity's,(departation tax?? maybe?) Well, it was everything but Booze, as the Instructor told me. No family obligations- I would have gone. The past 3 years in a row, at least 1 person has cancelled out on the Bonaire trip at the last minute. Someone has made a trip to bonaire, all inclusive for the cost of a "name change" on a ticket, usually around $175.00 - $290.00.

Maybe it was such a good deal because the shop has gone there as well as Bonaire for the last 23 years in a row.

If intrested, I can give you the email addy of the shop, maybe you can get the info of where/when. Possibly some tips. I REALLY like this shop, they are all about introducing people to diving........NOT making a profit. Shoot, it's because of them that I was introduced to regulator/second stage repair. Im up for my certification from the factory in the next few months.

O.K, Enough about me. By now you probably forgot what this thread was about. :o)

Be Well and email me if you want the info.

we stayed at the park royal when it was under another name, if it still the same, don't do it...it's a trick!!! the food was really bad, they served us canned fruit for breakfast!!!! CANNED FRUIT! IN MEXICO!!! GIVE ME A BREAK!! have heard good things about the Melia and Cozumeleno, sorry to hear Natasha didn't care for the Grand Occidental, have also hear some good things about it, a friend swears by it, but i don't think it's inexpensive.
best wishes,

I did tons of research, I spoke with 4 tour operators/travel agents, all who recommended Iberostar as their number one choice for an all-inclusive in Cozumel. They said there was no comparison. Then I got on www.tripadvisor.com and www.travelnotes.cc and read reviews. Iberostar got great reviews. Everyone said the food was great at both the buffet and restaurants, the swim-up bar and pool in general were great, rooms were nice and beach was beautiful. Also everyone said the grounds were gorgeous and the staff was friendly. That's where we're staying.
Fiesta Americana looked good too, but everyone said the food was just ok, and for an AI, that's not what we wanted.
FYI, we tried to book the Iberostar directly with the hotel (for July) and they were full. Luckily, Apple Vacations had 1 room left. They were actually significantly cheaper than booking directly with the hotel! We're paying $96 per night per person.
But its high season, you may want to book in advance and not take a chance.
Read the reviews on those websites, there's tons of info.
Have fun!

Gordin, in response to your email regarding Isla Mujeres - yes, we're flying out of Cancun. There's non-stop service from Cancun to Phoenix, which is where we live. I know we can dive up to 24 hours before flying, but we'll be in Cozumel for 7 full days, so I thought it would be fun to do a side trip to Isla afterwards. If we love Coz as much as everyone else, I'm sure we'll be back :)
