This storm is supposed to remain "just offshore" the Carolinas...I'm supposed to go diving on Aug 18-20. Do these storms ususally mess up the visibility for a long time after they leave?

Nope - the effects of this storm will be long gone by then. You might even have a chance to find some uncovered artifacts.
