Searcaigh is spot on ... You do not have to look at strictly PADI. Look for quality instruction. Many of the better instructors have taken courses from multiple training agencies (I have done GUE, NAUI, BSAC, PADI) and teach for multiple agencies depending on the course. Match the course which meets YOUR needs and wants.You don't have to be a DM to do any of these things, however I would suggest that you start looking at a Rescue course next, and look outside of PADI too, there are other agencies around.
One thing we don't know here is how many dives have your done so far, it's good to get experience outside of doing courses especially if you are heading in a tech direction.
