My wife and I are staying at the Inn of Last Resort next week but would like to snorkel with the dolphins over at AKR. If you are not staying at the resort, what are the chances we can squeeze in? Thanks!

We did the snorkelling with the dolphins last January when we visited Roatan. We did not stay at AKR. There was no problem, you just need to give them a call or have someone at your resort book it for you.

It was interesting, but not something that I think I would do again.

I've stayed at AKR several times, and there have been folks from other resorts at the dolphin staging area. I don't think it will be much of an issue. It might be a bigger issue during the summer when the resort fills with little ones there for the eco-educational sessions.

Call, write, have your resort make arrangements. Not only does the kids camp horn in, but the steady march of cruise ship divers/snorkelers can be a problem. Arrange in advance if you want to do it!

The "snorkel" is absolutely the way to go for the most intimate interactions. They touch, feel, pose in your arms. The SCUBA dive version makes for good video where you can say, "Ooh, look what I shot", videos looking just like National Geographic- but if you want to meet the critter, do the snorkel!

This can be arranged for anyone visiting Roatan, not just AKR guests.
