Just booked a very last minute trip. Have a couple extra days off and started messing around and found a direct flight from DFW on Sun Country airlines for tomorrow and I booked it. I have never flown to CZM, only stopped a couple times on a cruise ship. I booked a room at Coral Reef in, what should the taxi fare be? Should I get cash out of the ATM in the airport or in town? Won't be there long and this was a spur of the moment trip so didn't do much research.

No Taxi's out of the airport, its a union thing (search 'taxi mafia' for more info). From the airport you use a shared van, which is pretty cheap for a single person. The Coral Reef Inn is near Corpus Christi but I believe it is still in the centro zone so the price should be (last I checked) about $4USD (56 MXN). Exit customs and ignore the 4-6 helpful gentlemen waiting right there to help you, they are the timeshare guys. Go right about 20 feet and there is a glass window where you buy a ticket (they will take USD at a honest exchange rate). With your ticket go out front and the van guys will direct to which van is going to your area. The van usually is loaded to max full plus a couple extra. The van guys are pretty straight up to deal with. For an ATM there are a couple in the airport to the left of customs around the corner about half way to the departure area. In town I use the Bamex ATM in the Mega supermarket which is about 4 blocks from your hotel, I would not advise using a street ATM.

At CZM Airport there is a Santander ATM. Once you exit secure area, take a left and it is in the hallway.
If you want a taxi you have to leave Airport Federal Zone.
I go across the street near Diego's and you can get a taxi to downtown for about 80 pesos.
Hope it helps.

How wonderful for you to be able to go on this trip ! If you have a few minutes you may want to check out the sticky at the top of the Cozumel forum, Arriving and Departing the Cozumel airport. (Perhaps print it out and take it along for something to read on the plane ) There you will find lots of tips of navigating the CZM airport as well as info regarding transportation out of and back to the airport. In addition, note, that you can pay for your taxi fare as well as other items with USD, however, keep in mind the present exchange rate. Also, other than bank ATM's (please do NOT use free standing ATM's), and perhaps stores such as MEGA, local businesses and taxi drivers may not be on target with the correct exchange rate. The old 10/1 is no longer valid as the exchange is a bit better for USD now.... Best Wishes for a fantastic trip, have a Great Time !!! Double S

Just FYI, the Coral Reef Inn is NOT in the shared van "centro" zone. The edge of "centro" is Calle 11 and the CRI is on Calle 15, so the shared van rate will be 96 pesos, like all of the Corpus Christi area. Moot point if you walk off airport property to get a taxi, but....just sayin'. Have a great trip!

thanks for everyone's tips in such a short notice. Should be boarding in half an hour. Just sitting here trying to think of everything I forgot. Was able to get all my gear in a carry-on.

I walked across the street from the airport, the other side of the traffic circle. Was picked up right away as well as another family. Cab fare was $8 to the hotel. Fare was the same when I went back to the airport. Was picked up right in front of Mega. Back to the real world now.
