we just got back last night and did not this time or previously experience big delays at the checkin counter. On arrival, the immigration line was real big but security has always been fast. If they want to speed up airport efficiency, the moving bottle neck needs to be fixed not just in one area. Even if the checkin was long, we still had to wait from 6:00 to 8:30 am for our flight which didn't leave until 11 am due to weather anyway. As with most airports people and planes do not come and go in a steady stream but in blobs. This is caused by airline scheduling based upon the hub system which causes us passengers to play musical planes to get anywhere. Airlines get away with it because the FAA is in their back pocket and we have no choice because it is a monopoly. Better than walking.

Not sure if that rumor is actually true or not Martha. Last July/Aug when I was there it was susposed to be in effect but myself and a lot of others went to the counter and payed the tax before getting in line....well we actually got in line first having heard the rumors but after watching several others pay the tax first and one of us got out of line and payed it, no questions ask.....either they don't enforce it or decided it was a bad idea. They also take CCs.

Either it depends on who's working or things have gone back to the way they used to be (I hope). Last time we were there, they wouldn't let us pay w/o the boarding pass, so I was hoping that has changed. I used to just pay the departure tax upon arrival (if there wasn't a line), which worked out really well.

I just returned from Bonaire last week, they let us pay the departure tax before we had our boarding passes. If I remember correctly, no credit cards, but I think there was an ATM right next to the window.

SERVICE CHARGE (ENGLISH)

Starting December 1, 2008, Bonaire International Airport N.V. will charge each departing passenger a service charge. This service charge amounts to Ang 3.-- and will be added to the existing passenger facility charge (airport tax). This means that departing passengers for domestic destinations will pay Ang 15,50 and Ang 63,50 international destinations .

Just something to note, doesn't Bonaire only have one airport?

I mean how do they have "Domestic Destinations" with only one airport?

just seems odd.

Maybe they are considering Curacao and Aruba as domestic?

Flights to Curacao are considered domestic at this time as both islands are still part of the Netherlands Antilles.

If it means I get my baggage before the one hour mark, I would be happy. It took them almost an hour and a half from the time we touched down to the time we got our last bag. It was the last one through on the carousel.

Last week the entry and exit at the Flamingo terminal was horrible, maybe just our bad luck. Long lines for both entry and exit. What astounded me was after going through security screening for our return trip, we had to take our Delta boarding passes and stand in another intolerable line to get another pre-boarding pass. Then they hand checked baggage after it had gone though the initial x-ray screening....

Bonaire exit fee was $34 usd.
