I am taking the Star Dancer out of Milne Bay PNG this July. Does anyone know if Airlines- PNG is a legitimate and reliable airline? All the major travel search sites only seem to offer AirNuigini & Qantas options. Does anyone know why Airlines-PNG is never represented?

APNG is a reliable airline. It does not really hook into the big CRS networks so will not be found unless you go online yourself.

It is of course smaller, although it has 22 planes and Air Niugini has 21, as it mainly serves the smaller airports around PNG.

It suffers like all airlines in PNG due to weather conditions etc. PNG is a tough place to fly in and safety is paramount. Safety often equates to delays.

Hi PNG enthusiasts:

We just are back from a three week excursion to PNG. We did a week at Tawali Resort (fly in to Alotau)and then 11 days on the FeBrina out of Walindi(fly into Hoskins)> We flew Air Niugini and I coined them Air Never Get There. We did 11 flights in three weeks and 6 of them were Air Never Get You There. They have a great bunch of planes-three new Dash 8s (Q 400's), but apparently everything domestic runs on Island time. Make sure you have lots of wiggle room. Not a single flight went on time, one was cancelled (the day before the liveaboard was leaving) and one left early. I clocked the check in people-minimum 16 minutes per person to check in. It is very painful, but you will eventually get there...and the diving and the people are worth it!

Hi,

I have flown both Air Niugini and APNG - APNG were on time, weather permitting. It is a vast and mountainous country and although the weather in Moresby might be OK, your plane could be comming from the highlands or the outer islands where the weather could be entirely different.

If you haven't gone ]been already Airlines as stated by seahorseeker are very slow in general they work on island time, their attitude is don't worry well get you there, time doesn't mean much to PNG folk I'm afraid, they are not clock driven as we westerners are.

Plane safety is high as they fly into some really hairy airstrips in the mountains of PNG, weather permitting. PNG pilots are generally Australian or trained in Australia. In saying this all of the coastal strips I have landed on are large and well maintained.

No issues with the planes. Agreed with Seahorse that planes may or may not arrive on time or even at all. This is either the airline policy or flight schedulers issues.
