I'm a Fish!
Putting the final touches on our trip to Utila. We can use Sosa or Atlantic for our "hop" between San Pedro Sula and Utila.

Atlantic costs a little more, but price isn't the most important thing. I'd have to take a 6AM flight out of Utila on Sosa as opposed to 8AM on Atlantic which, at the moment, makes Atlantic look a wee bit more appealing. Anyone have experience with both, either, and/or a preference?

We had occasion to use both back in 2006 and found each one both fun and a little odd.:xeye:
I'd like to use the one that is more organized, safer, gives the illusion of being safer, or just the one to choose for any another reason I haven't thought of. I'm guessing I'll hear six for one, half dozen of the other, but you never know.......

Thanks for any input.
Susan

We have use both as well, it will also depend on the connections with your inbound/outbound flights, as each fly to Utila of different days of the week, so you'll need to coordinate that, they used to both travel on the same days, but no longer.Other that that, actual planes are pretty close.
When will you be on Utila? We will be there Feb 15 to March 3.

We will be there Saturday April 19 through Saturday the 26th. I'll be looking for your "trip report" here before we head out. Thanks, for the post. It seems the flights for both airlines on those particular Saturdays are almost the same give or take 30 minutes. I'll see if anyone posts a glowing review or horror story on either and then go ahead and purchase the tickets!

ATLANTIC ATLANTIC ATLANTIC. They are not great but better than SOSA!

I find SOSA to be completely unreliable. They way they operate their business i find it hard to believe they are still in business. They wouldn't be if there was more competition.

But that is my experience of SOSA on Roatan, Utila residents may say different with regard to their experiences.

That speaks volumes, thanks, just bought the tickets from "ATLANTIC ATLANTIC ATLANTIC.":rofl3:

Thanks BayIslandDiver- it was coin toss and it landed on the side of your experience!

In 2006 I made reservations in La Ceiba with Sosa to fly from Roatán to SAP a week later. The reservations were "lost" and we were fortunate to find out in time to book that flight with another airline.

We will also be in Utila April 19th -26th. Any chance you are staying with Deep Blue??

As far as the flight goes. We are booked on Atlantic Airlines to Utila.

Actally, Deep Blue was our first choice but since we chose that particular week to go the rates were much higher than usual (whale shark research week).
We made decision to stay at Mango Inn and dive with UDC that was purely financial.
Sounds like they have a great program at Deep Blue for that week, hope to do it next year when our travel budget allows. You should have a wonderful time there!

PS- we bought the tickets on Atlantic and will be going over on the 2PM flight and returning on their 8AM flight. Connecting to Continental in and out of Newark. Where will you be coming from and are we all on the same flight?

Susan and John

Yes, we will be on the same Atlantic flights. We are flying Continental direct from Phil to SAP.

I guess we'll be able to meet and compare notes on our return flight. We are meeting some friends from Florida for this trip and they will aslo be on the Atlantic flight. I guess it may be almost full?

Atlantic, at least out of Roatan doesn't really follow the schedule, or reservations. We went to Utila last March and by the time we got on an Atlantic flight, which we booked months in advance, we were more than four hours after the scheduled time.

Remember that the baggage allowance for them is 50 lbs. per person, not per bag, 50 lbs total. To take more you will have to pay more which will differ depending on how much their counter person feels like pocketing for himself.

Good luck, if I ever go back to Utila again I will take the ferry.

Later, Hawk.
