Couple of vids to give you an idea what CCV was like two weeks 2016 (most likely declined since then). Poor vis, few and small marine life, plastic in the water everywhere. And boy scout camp food.

I felt Cayos was also very mundane. Less boat traffic for sure. Easy diving, very private. I went on a day trip, did not go Aggressor for Roatan.I would do it if you were guaranteed to be visiting sea mounts and Cayos but they stop at pretty mundane sites around Utila (one of them 50 yards from my house).
Which is more expensive... the liveaboard or the land based ?The only comparable to the Roatan Aggressor is Coco View. $3200>3500(+) vs $1900 (inclusive) from a quick search
CCV sits on the South side of Roatan, exactly where any liveaboard is forced to stay because of: 1) wind and wave, and 2) high fuel costs. (Do not begin to count on Utila, Seamounts or Cayos)
The ship does not move to any different u/w experiences as much as the hype would infer.
Both have their die hard fans, very few have done both. I’ve done the Bay islands 3x shipboard, 30x at CCV.
Liveaboard has less sand fles, CCV doesn’t rock.
