They need to hire non angsty baggage handlers. I have seen how some seem to give each bag a little extra push to make it a little more rough.

If the airline destroyed it, there is a good chance they will pay for it.

Whether they pay for it or not, OP needed to know where it was possible to purchase decent replacements on the island.

We had an airline that apparently went out of its way to wreck a new Tumi bag of ours. We went to the luggage office after it came out of the chute crushed. They gave us a shipping box pre-labeled so we could send it to their repair center after we got home. It came back good as new. That worked out fine as it was on our return flight. If it had happened on the way to our destination we would have had to buy a replacement there just so we could have gotten our stuff home.

That's pretty much how I assume my bags will be handled! Anyways, those guys were just making more work for themselves tossing the bags much further and with more force than was needed.
