Check out this link on a B-29 bomber lost in Lake Mead back in 1948. It sits in over 250 feet of water and if I remember right it's in some kind of protected area so no one is allowed to dive on it but the pictures are wild.

B-29

The History Channel just had a 1 hour special on this acft two days ago. Should be on again soon.

There's an airplane wreck in Aruba that I dove in the 80 foot range. I'm sure it's the same one mentioned by Cactusdiver and shown in the pic. It's called the Sonesta. Great dive, lots to see and very interesting.

I just happened to catch that on the TV the other night. It was late and I was channel surfing and just ran across Deep Sea Detectives. Great show.

Another nice airplane is a Bearcat off Gizo in the Solomons. It's in about 5 metres, pretty much intact. Allegedly shot down by Pappy Boyington, who mistook it for a Zero. Sometimes hard to tell the difference in the heat of battle, with those big radials up front.

What a list...

West Coast/ California - P-38 off Torrey Pines in 135 ft, F4U Corsair off Crystal Cove State Beach in 70 ft, a F4 Phantom in San Diego in 150ft, a B17 in 200ft also off San Diego, a small drug plane in 190 ft off San Diego, and a small private plane in 115 off Catalina (not a cessna, but I can't remember the correct model name). These were all true wrecks, not reefs.

The P-38 is pretty nice. Most is intact, including part of the canopy. The panel and engine have been removed, but the machine guns and 50 cal rounds are still there.

The F4U corsair went down in 1946 or there abouts. You can almost see where they folded up, but sand is covering. The engine and propellers are missing, as is the tail section, although I have found the rear rudder (odd, I know). A huge tree fish lives in the engine compartment, a big sheephead under the Starboard wing, and a Lingcod under the Port. Lots of beautiful corynactis all over. Don't eat the scallops, though, they taste funny!!

I have not dove the others, yet. I hope to do the small plane in Catalina, soon. But the others are too deep for my training!

Oops...
I mean a B36, not B17 in 200 ft off San Diego...
