Has anyone had any issues with weight limits on Air Tahiti? I'm working hard to get the weight down, but I am not confident I'll make it due to camera equipment....only so much you can shave. I've got light weight duffle bags, etc for dive gear and clothing, but the camera stuff has to be in a Pelican.

My question, their website has the pricing for being overweight with luggage, that's fine and good.

So I guess my burning question is.....have any of you had the experience where they wouldn't let you take your overweight, whether or not you paid?

We just got back from FP. There was no way we could keep our weight within limits between the scuba and camera gear -- we paid the overweight for inter-island flights without a problem.

As a side note, for the inter-island flights you can only take 1 carry-on. If you have additional camera equipment that needs to be checked in, tell them it is fragile -- they will add a pink tag to it and have an attendant take care of it for you.

We just got back Saturday night ourselves. When did you get back? We were overweight too and opted to pay the overage fees upfront before the first hop for all the hops. Sure helped with adding weight for souvs and dampish gear! :blinking:

We also paid the overage. You are allowed 20 kg total per person and you get an extra 5kg per person with showing your C-card. Of note, they include the weight of your carryons in this total. My wife and I were allowed 50 kg total and we had over 100 kg! For our inter-island flights from Tahiti to Rangiroa to Bora Bora and back to Tahiti I think it cost us $300. As it was our 20th wedding anniversary, what's another $300?

So I'd say do the best you can, but don't sweat it. If they got our massive gear around without a hassle, I'm sure you'll do just fine. Enjoy your trip.

We just got back yesterday (Monday) afternoon... booooo! But what an amazing place! We'll be posting photos as we go through them.

Hmm, thankfully they didn't weigh our carryons. Two backbacks stuffed full of camera gear would have really added to the cost!

Our carryons weren't weighed either for our trip from 7/27 - 8/4. Our checked items weighed in at 64 kg I think so they charged us for 14 kg roundtrip (PPT-BOB-PPT). Looking at my credit card statement, the total was $36.65, not bad at all.
