Thanks 3dent and Uncle Pug. What about using a combo as well as a regular octopus? I'm not as worried about my equipment, which I have serviced after each salt water trip and twice a year diving here in fresh water failing, as I am with back up. ( I admit I carry too much redundant equipment )

Here is another one that you should read... it is about a turret reg failure but at post #20 mentions a free flowing Atomic Aquatics SS1 (safe second integrated with the BC inflator.)

The diver in the example was negative at the surface after ascending?? And that was not his first concern?

He was obviously an inexperienced diver, unfamiliar with his gear and possibly had a poor service job too. None of that had anything to do with it being an AIR. Had it happened underwater the outcome could have been better with an AIR than any conventional second stage, because of the ability to detach the LP hose easily to stop the leak, not possible with any fixed hose second stage. (However Zeagle does make a little known second stage shut off valve.)

Regulators of all types have been known to freeflow, crack and suck water, fall apart or even fly off the end of hoses; fortunately not all that often. That's why redundancy is a good thing... in whatever flavor you prefer.
To each their own choice.
