Why not use a good ole' reliable SPG and a wrist mounted computer? What do I get by integrating the air into the computer (other than a single point of failure)?

Use a Cobra once and ask that question again.

Things like remaining bottom time, based on YOUR air consuption

and exactly WHEN it's time to start heading back up. If you do ANY kind of technical or deep diving this is an invaluable asset.

Especially if you use different setups i.e. doubles... diff size tanks whatever...

Not only that but you will have such a better understanding of what you are capable of by reviewing your dive profiles

and see the progress you make as you become a better diver

The cobra simply can not be beat.... good choice :D

With air integration, you know how many minutes of air you have at your current depth.

You also get, with Suunto's Dive Manager software, a free calculation of SCFM.

You get to monitor minutes of air remaining while watching minutes till you hit your NDL (no decompression limit).

Greatly simplifies life.

If the computer fails during a dive, ascend at a safe rate and exit the water.

No, I have not used a Cobra before and the computers I have used were not air integrated. Maybe I will see if the LDS will let me take one for a spin...

Thanks for the info!

I doubt a LDS would let you "test drive" a Cobra... but maybee if one of the guys has one... Usually I tell people to join a dive club, it's the best way to "get your hands on new gear"

For $399 you just can't beat the thing... http://www.diveinn.com

however,,,,, you might want to wait a month or two .. .Suunto has a NEW air integrated system coming out (as do a number of other manufacturers)

but I think the Cobra will remain the king of computers

I'm with NewHampster.

If it stops telling you your air it's probably not clocking other stuff too so time to end your dive and enjoy the sun for the rest of the day. If you are computer diving and you can afford it it may as well be air integrated - I do and one less lead flapping around.

I dive the Cobra. Im a new diver and have never dove anything else so its impossible for me to make comparisons, but my Cobra even makes breakfast for me the next morning. :)

I can't even get my girlfriend to do that!!!!

:D

Just thought I'd try to clear up the issue regarding the SPG & air integrated computer.

What are peoples opinions on carrying both? In my opinion your just adding another HP failure point to your rig. Yes it's good to have one in your kit bag (just incase the Air int. comp. fails prior to a dive) but why increase the possibility of HP failure.

I dive with a Uwatec Air Z - very happy with it and have never had a problem. Also safe to say that there are less HP failure points then a normal SPG so a definate plus.

Later - Dave.
