I think they have their hands full getting Key West straightened out....And now, as of this morning (Sunday, 19 May), not only will Captain Hooks in Big Pine Key not put air in a nitrox banded tank, but they've also taken to barking and screaming at my friends dropping off yesterday's tanks for refill. "You gotta PAY first!" the nitwit shouted rudely, his head poking out the door of the workshop. My friend, a 50-something, retired Navy guy, a dive instructor and former dive shop owner (a shop that did nitrox fills across the street from the current BP Captain Hooks location) was quite taken aback. He was unaware of needing a chit from the office first, and a simple "Do you have the receipt?" would have sufficed. Why is it that no dive business in the Keys can remain user friendly for long? What's it been, a year since they took over from Strike Zone, the previous owners doing their level best to drive away business? Whew. Must be something in that air they're pumping, huh?
The Tank Monkey didn't lie. He was following house rules and we all should honor that.
Yep and was likely part of the impetus for Brexit. (Yes I am joking but it IS a good example of bureaucratic nonsense). The Tank Monkey didn't lie. He was following house rules and we all should honor that.
Where I am, in Germany, it is forbidden by law to put Nitrox in a tank not labeled "Nitrox". This law goes even further. You must have a "Nitrox Only" tank valve, first and second stage and all three must be color-coded as such. The Nitrox first stage is a different size and cannot be used with a standard tank valve.
If you get caught putting anything other than EAN 21 in a standard SCUBA tank or using Nitrox without a labeled Nitrox tank and a Nitrox dedicated first and second stage, you could have your license revoked and you can be hit with HEAVY fines.
Yes! And that is your prerogative. In Germany, however, you vill obey ze rulez! LOL!Is is their compressor so they can decide how they are going to fill the tanks, but it is also my wallet and I decide where it is being spent. And if a shop has rules like that, they probably aren't going to be seeing my credit card.
They do! And they're DEAD SERIOUS!Wow, Germany apparently does have SCUBA Police....
In all reality it happened because the Scuba industry either weren't invited or didn't turn upbut it IS a good example of bureaucratic nonsense
