I'm pretty sure that is a mini-split unit in the upper right corner of Joaz's picture,
These allow in room AC with their own controller, if it is working. I've never been on a live aboard, but if I was in your position , I would try to get the best room money could buy.( probably better maintained ) Make sure you talk to the head guy when you are booking the trip to let him know you are not just being picky.

Indeed, but the difference in price between a regular berth and ‘the best room money can buy’ can be over $10,000 on the same boat :)

looks much better!, although i'm also finding is hilarious that the ceiling tile above the 3 bed berth still looks loose from when i was bashing my face against it 5 times a night :)
