I get cold fairly easily. For me the solution to diving in 68-72 deg temp was a drysuit with light undergarments.

If you want to stay wet, here's a suit that gets really good reviews from the people I've talked to using them

3 mil, but i had a 7 mil jacket..

Aquarena Springs is in San Marcos, TX, and water temp is 71 degrees year round.

In general 3mm is pretty light for 71F. The Jacket would put your core in good shape. Does this mean you had 2 layers on your arms? If so they were fine. 71F is cold enough to suck a lot of heat from your head (hood? / beanie?) and to chill your hands. Were you in dive booties or barefoot in full foot fins?

And then the $10,000 question... How well did the 3mm & Jacket fit?

The bottom line is that most divers would be perfectly comfortable spending a lot of time in 71F with a wetsuit between 5 and 7 mm depending on personal tolerance and the layering pattern. Most likely you were ill fitted and under equipped and not highly cold intolerant but I do respect that possibility.

This may be a good read to help you understand how you can be more comfortable.

Pete

BTW, it's 3mm not 3 mil. 3 mil is paper thin.
