I absolutely LOVED Agua Rica! Tony and Claudio (and their staff) were great. Professional, knowledgeable and just nice people.

The diving there is def. not Carribean. Bigger fish. Bigger schools of fishes. But, cooler water, stronger currents (at least when we were there) and viz was hit and miss. We dove Catalina Islands. We had planned to take the trip out to Bat Island but there was a fatality that week involving a diver (this was 2 years ago) and none of the operators would go.

And, I really love Tamarindo. I have heard people say that it is "too touristy." But, put it in perspective. . . Orlando it is not. There is plenty to do there and is def. not rural Costa Rica. But, I loved it. Highly recommend.

If you want to do things other than dive (like we did) here are some ideas:
-Costa Rica is a surfing paradise; lots of schools and GREAT waves; We had great fun.
-sunset cruises
-estuary tours in these teeny boats where we saw crocs, bats, howler monkeys and more birds than I have ever seen
- tree top rides . . . zipping along on a harness between the trees. Didn't do it but heard it is fun
- if you like eco-tours and love turtles . . . you can go on guided tours to watch the leatherbacks nest. A late, long night and a long wait but we did see some up close. It was very respectful and there were biologists to keep the tourists in their place (no going by their faces, small groups, no flash photography, no touching . . ) REALLY amazing.

I highly recommend Costa Rica, Tamarindo, and Agua Rica.
