Ok I knew there would be a steep learning curve with my new SP350. But my pictures really stink. I couldn't see through the view finder most of the time. I felt hopeless...
The viewfinder was the most irritating part. Is there some trick I am missing??? It seemed like it was whited out.

Here are just a couple of the 80 that turned out so you could even recognize that it was a fish

I don't look thru the view finder, I look at the screen. I am at that inbetween stage with my eyes and most of the time it's guess-ti-mation.

What were your settings?

Cheddar,

As Leesa said, why are you trying to peer through the viewfinder?

For the first outing, just put the camerap on P (or program mode, or automatic, or whatever they call it), turn on the flash, look at the display screen, and snap away.

Save apperatures, shutters, etc. for the next dive outing.

Sorry Leesa, I meant the screen. Underwater mode, ISO 200 Shutter 1/800, F8
Not that I have a clue as to what these thing actually mean....

Hi David!!!!
I think it is me!!!!

Plus the silly bluegills would get so close to the camera, it couldn't focus

I don't know too much, but I can explain the numbers a bit:

ISO is the rating that tells you how light sensitive your "film" is. The higher the number the grain-ier your pictures will be - I have my camera set to 64

Shutter = your shutter opens for 1/800th of a second pretty fast

F-8 = how wide your lens is open - f8 is the samllest my camera will go
