I carry a large knife strapped to the inside of my left calf, a smaller one on the right strap behind my horse collar BC and a couple of line cutters on my gear. Overkill? Maybe but I want to be able to reach a cutting device no matter what pretzel shape I'm twisted up into. I saw the after effects in the boat of a diver caught by a trolling rig. It hooked him in the back of his right leg and drug him long enough to open his calf from his knee to the ankle to the bone before he was able to cut free. He told us later how he struggled to get to his knife on his left calf but the way he was getting drug caused everything to bend in ways it was not meant to bend. The next weekend, we were all festooned with knifes! lol.

I got tangled up once in my own dive flag buoy line and have to admit that the feeling of having one arm tied around my head and a fin tapping me on the butt made me very uncomfortable. I sharpened my knives after that one.

Does that make me one of those types of divers? I don't care. I'm an old Solo diver!

I buy bread knives with the black handle and the two rivets, grind an edge on the top and cut off the tip

ER shears
May I ask what make/brand the shears are? Saw a very concerning post on Leatherman Raptor Rescue some other day, they caught a bad amount of rust after just one saltwater dive :shakehead:

Generic. ER shears only cost a $2-3 in bulk and last a fews years before the pivot bolt rusts too much. Just swap it out as needed.

after one of my trainers described his extensive military experiences (Airborne) with paratroopers cutting or stabbing their necks when dealing with a knife in the upper harness area, I was quick to never adopt that configuration...

looks tough guy cool, but no thank you. There are, IMHO, better options for configuration.

YMMV
I totally agree. Anyone who has a problem with cutting or stabbing their own neck when dealing with a knife in the upper harness area should NEVER stow their knife in the upper harness area.

Put it somewhere else like your waist belt.

Dive knife on the leg is kinda out dated
and stupid as its outside the golden triangle or not even within arms reach....

Dude you gotta get with the strength some of us have updated our golden triangles to golden diamonds
and have even added some extra rooms, which with a bit of arm, knee manipulation are well within reach
