I have an Aeris XR-1 that I picked up as a back-up. It's a good no-frills dive computer, and capable of gauge mode. The computer is Air only, and the one reason I am reluctant to recommend this computer to a new diver.

Pro:
- Easy to read
- Easy to use for recreational NDL dives
- User replaceable battery

Cons:
- One button action makes setting the computer more difficult and time consuming
- Gauge mode does not log dives
- Gauge mode is not retained when the computer auto-shuts off for the day.

1+ what as3753 said above.

It is a no-frills computer, but since I don't dive nitrox I'm very pleased with it. There are pro's and con's to any "one button" computer. The pro's are generally simple use, the cons are generally more difficult setup because you have a lot of cycling through settings to do.... but that only took a few minutes. And you only have to do it once (except for using "guage" mode as a techincal bottom timer as mentioned above... it was not really designed to do that well, but will as as3753 said, with some hassle).

Underwater it works great, the single button allow you to scroll through the main displays quickly. Mine has been very reliable. I had to change the battery at just short of one year of use. The battery is easy enough to change, and is available from most stores that have a camera department (it uses a fairly common camera-type battery).

If you think nitrox is in your future, look elsewhere. For recreational, non-deco air dives, it works great.

Best wishes.

I highly suggest going to leisurepro.com and building a package and adding the TUSA DC HUNTER console. It has the IQ700 computer on it and while its very easy to use, its also feature packed!

Got one for my wife, she likes it. I like my green button Aeris Atomos II and both of the units track the same and work well with no troubles so far. Both read about two to three degrees warm on the water temp, depth I believe is dead on. N

I have an XR-1 that I still use as a backup. Simple, reliable, basic. Since it is not nitrox capable, it was too limiting as my main computer. Also I found the nitrogen load graph a bit hard to read although the numeric display is OK. The alarms do not stand out well either.

Easy to change the battery and easy to use. Bottom line, if you are really tight on $$, the 135USD price is hard to touch, but if you can spend $200, you can buy a nitrox capable computer with more features such as the Veo 180.
