I just bought a used Aeris XR-2. I was going through the modes, and I noticed that all the NDL times are off. For example, at 30m, the time should be 20 minutes, yet the it reads 17 minutes. Does anybody know what is going on here? Do I have a bad altitude gauge or something?

Do I have a bad altitude gauge or something?

Where are you at ? My first guess would be that it's compensating for altitude. I'm not sure how it would react if it had been turned on during shipping (while in the air that is).

That was my first thought. I reset the computer, and still I get the same ndl times. I checked local barometric pressure - 100.4 kPA (darned near sea level). I just checked out the depth gauge in a pool 3.2m in pool = 3.2 m on depth gauge.

More than likely nothing is wrong. You say it should be 20 minutes at 30 m but that's only according to on table. Most dive computers are slightly different. Some or more liberal in that regard and some are more conservative. Mine says 16 minutes for example (TUSA IQ-700).

Some computers and be sure to be more conservative as well but as you're reset yours that's not the case.

I just checked an older Oceanic computer that I have and it says 19 minutes. They all vary.

The only odd thing in your case is that Oceanic/Aeris computers are usually more liberal than most. Check to make sure there isn't some conservative setting that has been picked.

I thought about that too. I was hoping someone might know about a conservatism setting I was missing. I checked the manual, and it says the ndl for 30 m is 20 minutes. The ndls for all the other depths are off too. I am still leaning toward thinking that the pressure transducer is somehow not zeroed correctly.

Mine did the same thing, I sent it back and they did take care of it for me, but it did cost like $100 bucks I think. Kinda made me crabby......

You might want to try emailing Aeris and asking them directly. I would guess that you can safely dive the computer although you lose a couple minutes of NDL at 100ft. I can see how the discrepancy might make you a little nervous about the overall function of the computer so asking Aeris can't hurt. Here's the link for you : DiveAeris.com - Contact Us

Thanks for the suggestions. I kind of figured it wasn't quite in working order. What did they tell you was wrong with your computer in the end CC?

I'm hoping the guy who sold it to me off ebay agrees to split the repair cost.

..or perhaps you've just discovered why it was sold on EBay in the first place ?

Pressure went up by 1 Kpa, and it started working correctly. Either it is off by 6 Kpa (my guess) or something different was at play. I will check again when the pressure goes down again.
