Anybody have one or know anything about them? Love 'em, hate 'em--never been on a date with one?

Thinking of buying one from Scuba Toys. I have a shop here that sells them and has agreed to do service. I am buying other stuff from the lds and paying him a few bucks to add the guages and octo that the lds sells.

Have talked to a tech diver and he loves the atmos pro and says he has had it down to 300' on a number of times.

So let the blessings, cursings, and flaming begin! I would really like to hear what you guys think.

Leah

I have a sport model of that regulator that has been put into backup status by my Zeagle Envoy Deluxe. The sport lacks the second stage adjustment of the pro model you are looking at.

My only problem with the Atmos is the swivel on the first stage. For me it just never seemed to feel right. Sort of like it was pulling away - I know this makes no sense since we're talking about a 'swivel' but there ya go. Others may have a much different view.

Aeris gear is good stuff. You'll have the lifetime parts for services and there will be no problem getting it serviced as Scuba Toys is an authorized distributor. Bear in mind the good deals are partially due to the introduction of the new 1st stage models with self closing valves to help prevent water intrusion - DVT, Dry Valve Technology I think it's called.

Good luck.

Leah,

Are you looking to go the DIR route (I'm asking because of your post in the DIR forum re: hose lengths etc.) If so:
The swivel on the first stage is probably not preferred. In addition, if you're going with a long hose, the swivel won't do anything for you.

If not, I have no direct experience with the reg :)

Also, are you planning on taking the reg to 300'?

I think that planning on getting a reg service locally is a good place to start. From what I read on scubatoys, the first stage doesn't seem to be environmentally sealed, not sure if that makes a difference to you. Are you planning on doing any cold water diving?

It's certainly a great price.

Best of luck

Bjorn

I am planning to go as DIR as I can. I like the philosophy and the simplicity of the gear. The swival means little to me and I could take it or leave it.

As far as going to 300' I would like to go some day, but it will not be any day anytime soon. There is so much I need to learn and so many skills I need to develop. Also at that depth I would have a number of regs with me for various stage bottles.

It would cost me another 150-250 to go with a Dive Rite rg 2500 set up with the cheaper not being a sealed reg. I don't know if I really need a sealed reg or not. I am not planning on any cold dives, but who knows down the road. When the water gets around the high 60's I am ready to get high and dry at this point.

Fair enough. I would suggest that if you are planning on heading down that path, to spend a little extra money now.

Have you considered the Salvo? The SR2 with SRS second breaths nice, is sealed, DIN and you can get service kits for them and get them done anywhere. I'm biased, I've got one on my 40 and it's working nice, just an FYI. I believe the Oxycheq reg is the same as the salvo and you could pick one up from golemgear for $190 (on sale right now).

I haven't tried the Dive Rite regs but know some local tec divers that swear by them, but then usually people really like the regs they got :)

Just throwing out some extra options. Right now wouldn't give my my Atomics for backgas mind you ;)

Ok the atmos Pro is $199 at Scubatoys. If you are eventually going the Dir route and looking in that price range may I suggest a Oceanic GT3 with CDX5

Divers Supply has it for $174.95 and it is a better reg. It doesn't have the turret swivel which would be a PITA for DIR.

I'm sure Scubatoys would match it as well.

I
know of no better value in regulators right now and in fact have GT3's on my tech setup.

I agree. Leah, i'm sure that your LDS, or whoever you choose to purchase from, can get up a decently priced reg without the extra swivel. It will save you hassle and extra expense later if you go that way now. If you are not looking to buy local I would recommend a Zeagle (check with ScubaToys), or Salvo as jeckyll already said, or Apeks, etc. There are many good choices. It will be worth paying alittle bit more now if you have to, than to get something that you could end up replacing soon. Also, since you are talking about DIR, you could also talk to a local DIR group and see what they recommend. Someone there might be selling something good that you could get serviced locally too.
Good Luck

I have looked at Salvo. I think the same plant overseas makes both Salvo and Dive Rite. I might go that direction as well and buy a bunch of parts kits and get my guy here to do the service for me that services, Dive Rite, Aeris, Atomic, and OMS.

The guy here said I can take any reg out to the lake and test it out that he sells. However to be honest, I gone diving with the top of the line Scuba Pro and the bottom of the line Aqualung and I can't tell the difference at the depths that I am at now. They all give air and I am alive at the end of the dive.

part 2 of my last post

I am still at that stage where there is so much to take in and my experience so little that I am not able to really tell the difference in regs

the salvo first stage and the old dive rite first stage are the same, the second stage is not. IThe Salvo are a great value but the second isn't what I consider a great breathing reg(I have one)

The GT3 breaths better than the Dive Rite, no question. (Have compared in water with others and all agreeded)

If your guy services Aeris he can service Oceanic, the first stage is shared in both lines and the second is a piece of cake.
