To start I have read the manual (several times) and searched this forum, but can't seem to find an answer to my questions.

These question may also be answered by any dive computer owner also.

Question one: There is a setting for dive time remaining (dtr), it can be set from
:00 to :20 minutes. What would be a safe setting and why? Mine is set for 5 minutes.

Question two: And I believe the more important one, another setting is for elapsed dive remaining (edt). Factory set for 0:00 hr:min, can be set between 0:10 and 3:00. It is associated with an alarm. Is this a setting not to exceed a time underwater (nondecompression)? And what would be a safe setting for this and why. Or an explenation of what this feature is for.

Thanks in advance for any help.
David

Edit: Got answer from my LDS.

The DTR setting is going to depend on your dive. If you have 5 min. left and all you are doing is surfacing from a shallow depth; no problem; do you safety stop at 15' though.

However, if you have to swim any length of time back to your anchor line or other point of exit, 5 min. will not be enough.

As for the EDT, I left mine at 0:00. I don't really see a need under normal circumstances. Probably why it is set at 0:00 at the factory.

I would also suggest you no get too dependent on your computer telling you when to turn or when to surface. It could get you in to trouble. My wife has an Atmos2 and I have an Elite and we use data from our computers, and remaining air to determine when we turn or surface. We also dive our plan. The only alarms we have active on our computers are depth, nitrogen loading, ascent rate and remaining air (for me).

Thanks for the explanation, similar to what my LDS said. It makes more sense when it is explained, as the manual tells you how to set it, not why. I think I will reset my dtr to 10 minutes. I feel pretty comfortable with my console's operations now and will use it as a guide, not as a master. Maybe someday I will get the download cable and hopefully be able to see (more visual on the computer) an improvement in dive safety (limits), especially my ascent rate. I will be in Cabo in a couple of days, so I will get some practice then.

Cool. I'm with you there on the DL cable; I need one too. Seems kinda expensive though.

Have a great time in Cabo!

I broke down and purchased the download cable. That little cable cost me $74. I kept thinking I'd find it for less, but ended up paying full price.

The nice thing is that they give you the software when you buy the computer. I tried it out and thought the software was O.K., so I purchased the cord.

I think the reason the cable's so expensive is to cover the cost of the software, which they include.

I'm happy with the software and download procedures overall. My wife and I both keep our logs on the same program (I couldn't do that with another I had). It's nice looking at a graphic of your dive.

The software could be a little more intuitive, and it should have separate fields for your location and dive site, I seem to be adding both each dive.

I'm hoping improvements are made to the software and that those improvements are either free or inexpensive.

What's your opinion of the software? Anyone else using it?

Yah the 78 bucks or so is a little high, but just think, it is probably less than the tax on your new watch. ;)

Done packing the gear for Cabo, two more days of work, then hasta la vista! Thanks

Didn't know (or think about) using the software that came with it, I was waiting for christmas when my wife could give me the cable as a present. I will have to check it out. Thanks

I would definitely check out the software before springing for the cable. I keep my wife's logs, and the download kit makes it so I don't have to manually enter both of our dive profiles. I like the program, but not enough to feel right about recommending it to someone. There were a few steps that weren't really clear when working with the program; but overall, I'm satisfied and will most likely make it our primary dive log record.

You might be right. ;)

But I don't look cool with the cable wrapped around my wrist.

Some might say I never look cool, but I try not to listen to my wife too often.
