I am thinking of getting an Aeris Atmos as a backup computer. The price seems right. I want a wrist mount and want to know if the wrist mount strap is user friendly?

Can it be replaced with bungee?

Will it fit over a dry suit or 7 mm wetsuit?

Is this a reliable computer?

Any input will be helpfull. Or recommendations of other computer. I like the low profile of the Aeris.

thanks

Mike

I just order a wrist boot... like 15 dollars.

I am making that assumption.

My sister has an Atmos 1 and I have an Atmos 2... no problems except the temp is always off.

I like my Aeris a lot... it's easy to read, easy to program, etc... but I would not get the Atmos 1 since it's not nitrox compatible. Actually I am probably going to end up selling my Atmos and getting a computer that uses a more up-to-date RGBM algorithm. Folks are saying that the Suunto models use it... customized as it is... but I am thinking of forking out for the VR2.

The Atmos 1 is a good computer - but for the extra 100 or so, I'd do the Atmos 2. The wrist unit atmos 2 is only 268 right now during a Aeris promotion, and with the 2, you get Nitrox capability, audible alarms, download capability, flashing led when violated, backlight...

So either will be fine - but it's a small difference in price for a huge difference in features.

Larry,

Can the alarms be turned off? I agree the 2 has more features. I have been looking at both on your website.

How about the strap questions. Is the strap replaceable?

Will the strap fit around dry suit, or heavy wet suit sleeves?

Is the strap easy to deploy? I have a suunto sk7 compass and you need three hands to put the thing on!

Thanks for reply

So, will it work in either a wrist boot or consoL?

I have a Sherwood Profile and the temp readings can be screwy on that as well.

If you decide to sell, PM me.

What computer do you have as your primary? It might make sense to get a back-up that uses the same calculations as your primary. A back-up is no good if you inadvertantly violate it by following your primary.

As for the Atmos1, how about the Amos2?

It is nitrox capable and has more features. The alarms are customizable too, you can turn most off if you like.

You can also increase the safety factor by customizing the alarms, but I believe you can do this on the Atmos1 too, not sure though.

As for the wrist mount, the band is easy to put on and take off of my wrist. I just got an Aeris Elite (same mounting) from Scuba Toys and I also got a retractor that allows me to clip the computer to my BC. You just remove the straps and mount it to the retractor (very easy process). By the way, where do you wear you current computer? If it is on your wrist you could use the retractor to mount the back-up on you BC/harness. It will keep the computer out of the way but keep it accessible.

I also wonder about replacing the wrist strap on a Atmos 2 that I recently purchased. I like the computer but there is about 5 extra inches of strap flopping around after I get it snug around my wrist. A improvement for future models could include a way to tuck the extra out of the way so that it could still be used if needed for dry suit diving (for now all my diving is in nice warm tropical water). I had considered cutting off the strap and replacing it with a velcro watch replacement strap like they sell at outdoor shops. The bungee strap sounds interesting, where can I pick one up? Any feedback on this point would be appreciated.

My primary is a Sherwood Profile, consol mounted. You make some good points here I did not think about. I did not plan on carrying both at the same time. What happend is my Profile has started to malfunction. I need to send it back to the factory and will be without till it returns. So by backup I am looking for something to use while it is gone.

I do not dive nitrox and mainly use it as a bottom timer/depth gauge. I am now using my old reliable analog depth gauge and dive watch.

I think the 2 would be the better way to go. I may start using nitrox some day, and the backlight has come in handy in some of the cold dark lakes I dive in.

BTW some of the digit segments stopped working on my Profile after about 130 dives.

Thanks for the input

i cut the excess off, leaving about an inch and a half (in case
i ever wear a thicker wetsuit or a drysuit), and then cut the tip of it in the shape of a V.

looks very nice; can't tell i did it myself.
