What does everyone think of the Aeries Savant dive computer. I have a chance to get one at a good price. It is nitrox capable but not air integrated. It is a wrist mount. What price do you think would be a good price for this at a local dive shop.

What are any pros/cons of this computer that you know of?

Syruss....

Make sure to check in with TekDiver on this question. He is familiar with this brand and can give you an honest evaluation.

I have 2 SAVANTs ... mine and my wife's. We have logged about 30 dives each on these computers ... I really like the large display and they are fairly easy to learn to operate and like the Oceanic computers (same manufacturer Pelagic) they offer a color coded graph for things like NDL limit and ascent rate ...

Now ... a couple of caveats ... As far as I can tell AERIS no longer considers SAVANT as a 'current model' ... at least the last time I looked at their web site it was no longer listed .. also .. I had earlier serial numbered SAVANTS that gave me some trouble ... sent them to the manufacturer and they very nicely replaced them with later serial number models (serial number over 5000) unfortunately the newer models do not work with the older version's PC download 'nest' so I am waiting for either AERIS or my local dive shop to tell me when the replacement 'nests' are available for the newer model SAVANTs ...

As far as price I think I saw them recently for $299USD ... so somewhere less than $300 would be good ... less is ALWAYS better and if they are indeed a discontinued model then maybe MUCH less ... by the way the OCEANIC XTC-100 is the same computer under a different brand ...

hi there, I have been following your conversation regarding the AERIS SAVANT serial number and I am actually looking in to getting one although I am taking in consideration what you said regarding the serial# wich is KO 1855 119.

would you be able to tell me if this is actually bellow that 5000 or not. i'm not too sure which part of itshould this refer to....????

thanks for your feed back

Seeing as how you can get the newest version, the Atmos 2 at about $300 - I'd say a savant should go for about half that. If you can pick it up for $125 - $150, I would say that's a pretty good deal. Any more than that, you give up a lot of features on the savant vs. the Atmos 2... like water activation, audible/visual (flashing led) alarms, download capability with the new USB cable (There is a download for the Savant - but it won't work on XP), etc.

Ok I called Aeris directly with the serial and the nice lady told me that this perticular unit was recalled but that was in 1999 since then they stopped acually doing anything with them...no upgrade available...and yes the unit won't work with XP Win.95 only there is some problems wirh win 98......

So I thought getting it would be perhaps a opportunity to send it over to Aeris anyhow and take the chance to see what they would do, but I have a good feeling that I might be stuck with....

Anyway thanks for all you feedback it is mostly appreciated.
