Wow, compared to my Perdix, that sounds like a real pain. One thing I love about the Perdix is that everytime I use it I feel like it is such a civilized piece of equipment. Things like uploading to the cloud over my phone by bluetooth while headed back in on the boat and having all that done before I ever get back to the condo is sweet along with all the ways it makes switching and modifying things fast and easy with not incessant one way scrolling through menus is satisfyingly lacking in frustration unlike all the other computers I have used in any sport including this one. I have no interest in saving money by adding frustration only to give in later when I'm sick of it.

Currently, there is no way to get the dive log out of the Cosmiq and into anything but DeepBlu's proprietary log software (and no export from there). And, there are some settings on the Cosmiq that can only be changed using the companion app on a smartphone. You can't change them directly on the computer itself.

If those things aren't a problem for you, then you're good to go.

I am less concern about dive log but some setting can only be changed by phone seems like a problem. What kind of settings are they? Is there anywhere I can read about it? I just read the manual, didn't mention this.

basically assume that anything outside of nitrox % and dive mode has to be changed in the app instead of on the device

Well if you dive in the dark murk a lot, light-emitting screen is a huge plus and aside from the cosmiq and nitek q I can't think of a computer with that and a price tag much below $1000. And for that money you might as well go perdix.

If you mostly dive in bright tropical sunlight, there oled/backlight tend to be a downside or at least not much of a plus.
This is one of the main reasons I am looking at buying a Perdix - the screen looks amazing and with UK waters quite often being like pea soup, the fact I can see the screen is a huge boost. If I am going oled/LED (backlight is a PITA if you need to use it while doing other things such as operating the power inflator during an ascent/descent or shooting a DSMB), then the choice isn't huge and most cost a fair chunk of the cost of the Perdix anyway with less functionality which means that as I have the money atm I might as well go the whole hog.

Oh, yeah. The pucks suck in cold green water. Have to carry a flash light just to read the computer.

The Giotto I have does have a backlight but you need to hold down the left button for about 3 seconds to operate it and it only stays on for a few seconds (not ideal if you are busy with other things). If it stayed on for 30 secs it might be better.

If you are planning to move forward with more advanced diving then I would suggest looking at higher performing reg and a back plate and wing.

The AL Titan is a very high performance reg. That 2 stage, balanced downstream diaphragm design has been the benchmark for reliability since the early 1960's. If I had one regulator on a deserted island, it would be a Titan. Rock solid. Better than anything for the money. Just my 0.02
