Hi all, I'm debating these two places for a liveaboard in the beginning of May. I like Pelagics - sharks, mantas, whale sharks, etc. The thing is if I take up Tubbataha, I have to accept the ok-standard boat with my limited budget. Seems like komdo has more options in terms of liveaboards and with my limited budget, I can pick better liveaboard for Komodo. But in terms of the diving itself, which is better for a pelagic lover?

Komodo in May is perhaps a little early but you should still see plenty of sharks and mantas. Though the macro is wonderful- so don;t rule it out!

Tubbataha - will deliver at that time of year (though not the mantas)

if its in your budget then perhaps Fiji or the Maldives would be better alternatives - both destinations will certainly deliver on the pelagic front.
To Male from Hong Kong the best route is via Singapore
To Nadi (Fiji) from Hong Kong likely the best option is via Seoul

Something to think about for sure!
