Thrillhouse: Which shop did you buy the nexgen from?

When I bought mine a couple of years ago I went to the pool with an instructor and worked through diving in the suit. Still, in the first 2 dives it was tricky to "stay ahead" of the suit. I.E. you need to develop a feeling for when you're starting to go a touch 'light' and vent a bit of air.

As for gators, they should not be necessary with a nexgen. I've dove this one both with neutral fins and with fins that a a couple of pounds negative. You just need to get used to 'moving the bubble' once you're going up and the air in your suit starts to expand.

Again, the shop where you bought it should have helped you understand this.

As for the snorkel, mine has been driven around in the trunk of my car of a couple of years now ;)

If you're torso is a giant bubble, you're putting too much air in. You should be using the undergarment not air as insulation. The NexGen was my first drysuit. I had plenty of insulation on to keep warm with just enough air to take the squeeze off. If you end up with runaway ascents practice venting more often on ascents.

Unfortunately, I'd hazard to guess that "Using the drysuit as a BC" is still the primary way that is taught ... but that is a whole different discussion that's been had many times :)
