Got my Open Water certification in the early '70's. That was the end of my "formal training". Hundred plus dives latter including 100 foot ft plus dives in the Pacific and Carribean, wreck penetration, heavy current, etc. I really want to upgrade my C-card. Can anyone reccomend a good instructor in the Joliet, IL or Chicago western suburb area?

Take a Nitrox course, it'll open jaded eyes; some divers will no longer dive deep on air. Take Rescue, for sure, from any agency - you should get CPR and O2 Provider certification with Rescue. Also, just upgrading to AOW will allow you to do certain dives with operators that now demand an AOW C-card for what they consider advanced dives.
