ads on SB...this was rather funny, and perhaps a bit unfortunate

It appears that you can either get a image at the top (or bottom) of the page or a "sticky" post in a forum. I don't think you have to worry about anything on your list.

Well yes you do. Because many sites allow that "image" on the top of the screen to be a flash movie. That's where the trouble starts.

3. Make noise

Creators/enablers of forms of advertisments should be strung up by their toenails. Otherwise though, the ads are a great way to fund the site.

James: The current Campaign which runs in the top region of SB does not permit and or deliver Items 1-3 which you mentioned. This program has never done this nor do I think they ever will because of their structure for advertisers. The folks you see are members of the AdWords program at Google and sites like this one (SB) are members of the AdSence affiliate program at Google. To be clear, Google and only Google controls the content, delivry, media, and type of adverts this site displays.

They are relavent and very targeted and quite effective for numerous reasons. A few reasons:

They are always text
Google uses the actual content of SB to determine which adverts to deliver and thus does it's best to deliver targeted adverts.
Google has over 10K servers which are all used to deliver these adverts plus other technology to insure that the load time on the page is normally very fast

I hope this helps clarify exactly how this stuff works. :)

It'd be nice if the percentage of them was significant, and if they didn't resort to price-fixing to coddle those that stink.

If/when they do, I might think of supporting a few of them.
