OK, so I decided to put all my old dives into excel to store profile data from an old dive computer and I wanted to do some statistics on my dives. All was well. I recently bought a Suunto D9 and want to start using the associated dive mager software but want to add all my previous dives. Does anyone know a way I can import from excel to the suunto software. I don't mind doing it in a series of stages if necessary. I read somewhere that one of the old versions of the software could import from excel then maybe I could export in suunto format and then import to the new version (although I would need a copy of the old version if this was true). Has anyone got any suggestions?

Well the data i the SDM are stored in an ordinary Microsoft Office Access database, so I would asume, that if you look at the database itself, it would be possible to import your old data into the database.

Please remember to make a back-up of your SDM-database before starting.

I have played around without success. How do I access the SDM-datababase in microsoft (no pun intended)

sorry, to clarify, I have found the database but it asks for a password.

Were you able to transfer from Excel to Dive Manager? Were you able to get a password? I'm trying to do the opposite and save some of the fields (dive number, date, depth, dive site, a few custom fields) into an Excel file. Would appreciate your feedback. thanks.

search this part of the forum, the password is in

The password for the database is 'koira'.

Although I daresay that if you are not computer savvy enough to be able to crack the password, I doubt very much that you will successfully import your dives. The database schema is extremely umm... retarded, and it will take someone with some experience in screwing around with databases to make it work.

I can't remember if you are able to import into SDM v1.4, its been too long since I've tried. If you're lucky and I'm bored, I might see what I can do..

Audiotyro,
Down this file http://froop.net/files/scuba/DiveLog.zip
Unzip it, and there's an Access database inside. You'll need MS-Access to do this. At any time when a password is prompted, enter 'koira'. You should only need to do this once. The linked table manager should remember the password for the future.

In the 'Objects' pane, click 'Tables' and then right-click one of the table names that has a little blue arrow next to it (eg, 'Bookmarks'). Then select 'Linked Table Manager' at the bottom of the popup menu.

Click the 'Select All' button and then 'OK'.
Choose Files of Type *.*, and then browse to your SDM install directory (usually c:\program files\suunto\suunto dive manager 2) and select D9.mdb

Now if you double-click one of the tables with a blue arrow next to it, you should see all the data from SDM. In a really warped database schema.

Click to the 'Queries' tab and run the 'Users' query. There should be a user 1 - Example Diver, and then another user which is the name you entered when you first started SDM up. Take note of your user number, then go back to the 'Tables' tab and double-click 'ReportUser'. Enter your name (not really important) and your user ID (important).

Now you can go back to the 'Queries' tab and double-click 'Dives'. Hit CTRL-A to select all dives, then CTRL-C to copy, switch to Excel and CTRL-V to paste, and you have all your dive info in Excel.

Easy, eh?!

PS. I don't think I've skipped any steps.

PPS. In the 'Reports' tab there is a couple of reports that I use to print my logs to a 6x4 photo printer. Example is at http://froop.net/files/scuba/DiveLog6x4.pdf if you're interested. To add a background image, just make a JPG attachment on your divelog in SDM, and label it "BG" in the notes field.

Dapto,
Back to your original post - I downloaded v1.6 from the Suunto site, and you can't import from Excel - only from previous versions of Suunto software.

Froop,

Thanks a lot. I am a bit of a newbie when it comes to playing around with databases and your step-by-step guide is a big help. Agree that it is one warped dbase schema. There I was thinking it was going to be laid out in nice, neat columns. I'll be asking our IT guy for help to sort thru it now. My Access needs to have some modules installed. Thanks again.
