Hello Adam,
Welcome to ScubaBoard.
The question you've asked can really only be answered by a physician who is familiar with the rigors of diving, as well as intimately familiar with your personal medical history. There are certainly many divers who are actively diving in their 70s and 80s, and I have dived with some of them who are members of my local club.
There are diving physicians on this board who may respond to your thread (or you can post a question to Dr. Deco, a diving physician who may have additional information regarding gas transfer and your specific health issues). I suspect, however, that you will find a more definitive answer by working through your primary care physician - who can refer you to a specialist in your area.
Few persons on the board, myself included, know enough about your cardiovascular condition or the medicines you're taking and their potential side effects to offer any constructive answer. Another issue is that, regretably, while diving is a reasonably benign activity when nothing goes wrong, when something DOES go wrong it can require a vigorous response. A heart condition
might be something that would be contraindicative to diving. Here is a site that may offer you additional information:
http://www.diversalertnetwork.org/medical/articles/article.asp?articleid=11
The site may also offer other guidance, if you proceed back to the 'Home' page and then do a search in the upper right hand corner using the medications you're taking or the name of your specific condition(s).
Again, welcome to ScubaBoard.
Regards,
Doc
