Hello all,
I am planning a dive trip to Roatan from Feb 17 through Feb 24, 2007. The three resorts I am considering are Fantasy Island, Paya Bay and Coco View. Can anyone give me their opinion for any or all of these resorts? I am open to new suggestions as well. I want to make as many dives as possible during the week and have a decent, clean place to stay when not diving.
Thanks and safe and happy diving wishes to all.

Hope you have a great trip!
I was part of a group that stayed at Fanatsy Island in Jan 2006. They were still under renovation. The rooms are nice and clean with pergo wood style flooring. So no worries about water.
The food was good by their standards. We were well taken care of by the diving staff... Be sure to take heavy duty bug lotion for the "noseeum" that live on the beaches..They will eat you alive!!! You'll come back looking like you have the measles! LOL I suspect they are everywhere on the island.
They had regular entertainment through out the week at FI. A taxi ride to the West End will cost you about $50
Short info but hope it helps!!!

Hard choice between CoCo View and Fantasy Island. Both have excellent dive shops, boats and DM's, close to great dive locations, good food and nice accommodations.

Having stayed twice at FI and plan on going back in May, our vote goes to FI.

Why? FI has a beach, places to walk about, a fresh water pool, monkeys and other creatures that will keep you entertained and cable TV in the rooms. CoCo View does not.

FWIW

Also, as mentioned by others, take DEET. Alot of DEET. The no-see-um's can be bad, especially when the sun goes down.

I would definitely recommend Coco View. We had a great trip there. Very laid back and very relaxing... Here is the link to our trip report... http://www.sarasea.net/roatan.htm

May be the time of year but we did not have one bug bite the week we were there.

I sent inquiry emails to Coco View, Paya Bay, Fantasy Island and Bay Islands Beach Resort. Paya Bay and Coco View replied they are booked up for the Feb 17-24 week but Coco View offered to put me on the waiting list. Bay Islands has vacancies and I am waiting for a reply from Fantasy Island.
I have never heard of anyone mentioning Bay Island Beach resort but they have a nice ad in Scuba Diving that I have looked at for the past few issues so what the heck, I wrote em.
Thanks everyone for your comments, opinions and input. I can see this is going to take many coin flips until I decide where my fins will reside. There are some huge deals going on now, too bad I cant find the time to go between now and Thanksgiving.

One thing to note about BIBR. They have a really nice beach facility. As such, when there is a ship in port (not many come to Roatan, but there will be some that week), there are often a significant number of passengers who purchase a day pass to beach it and snorkel. Shouldn't affect your diving to any great degree, but didn't want it to come as a surprise when you came back from your dives and all of a sudden the beach was much more populated than usual.

thanks for the heads up, Amber. I am going that week because that is Mardi Gras week and about everything around here will be closed. Many locals travel that week and it is possible many from here will be on a cruise ship going somewhere.
I am not going to snorkel or hang out at the beach except if I do any shore diving. It shouldnt be a problem; especially, if it is only one or two days.
