I'm a Fish!
Hey all, Eric here from the North Coast.

Hey, we're having a big Abalone season opener dive and barbecue Sunday April 1st at 8:00 am at, right now I'm bucking for Fisk Mill cove, up in Sonoma County. The diving is beautiful and there will be lot's and lot's of abs.
If any of you Socallers have the time and want to goin us come on up.
I'm bringing a big commercial style barbeque to do half chickens, ribs, tri tips. I'm also bringing an outdoor cooker to fry up some fresh abalone. We'll have a big cooler full of beer for after all the diving.

There are numerous campgrounds around if you want to crash out for a few nights.

I know it's a long way to go but I promised to give you a heads up whenever we have something going on.

Eric

Grrr... you do have to taunt us SoCal divers with the fact that taking abs up there is legal, but not here. I can't even remember how those delicious snails taste... even when cooked by someone with my culinary "skills."

I do get to see red abs down here often... in the tanks of the El Galleon restaurant!

Hey Eric,

Thanks for the heads up and invitation to all of us to come up and join you.

I'll have to see if I can find my way clear to taking a little drive up the coast to join you all!

This might be a nice thing to do if I take Monday off and spend the night at a campground from Friday night through Sunday night.

Which campground would be closest to where you will be having the BBQ?

Christian

This sounds great! Having just gotten certified this year, this would be my first opportunity to hunt for abalone. I've certainly gotten bit by the hunting bug -- I've caught about 25 lobsters so far this season, and brought up a similar number of scallops. We're big into camping...I'd be interested in learning more about the camping opportunties. More details please!

Well, the closest campground which is just a little south would be Gerstle Cove State Park, then a little further south from there would be Ocean Cove campground which is privately owned (real fun place), then a little further south from there would be Stillwater cove campground which is a Sonoma County Regional Parks campground. All these are in close proximity and all good. I would get on reserveamerica and get a spot at Gerstle if I were you. The diving in Gerstle cove is outstanding BTW because it's a no take preserve. Lot of great photo oportunities there. So you could make a little safari out of it and come up and explore the wild North Coast.
