Dove with East Cape Explorers in San Jose del Cabo.

If you're used to Caribbean diving, with 100+ foot visibility, don't expect that here. However, the dive masters more than make up for it by getting you to the best dive spots around. We did two days of two tank dives, and probably should have done a third day, although we had non divers with us, and we needed to do non dive activities as well during the week.

The first day we did Gavilanes and Chileno Bay. We dove around 50-60' and saw morays, rays, more parrot fish than you could count, star fish, octopus and many more. The boat had a couple of newly minted divers as well as very experienced ones. The dive masters made sure everyone was comfortable, dove to their level and had great dives.

The second day was incredible at Gordo Banks. Gordo Banks can be hit or miss, and boy did we hit. On the first dive to 110' we saw schools and schools of all varieties of fish. I was the only one who saw a shark in this dive. The second dive to 90' was the killer. Again there were hundreds of schooling fish, sea lions, barracuda and a 6' Mako that swam around us for over 20 minutes from 60' down to the surface.

I don't have a lot of dives, and relative to many dive travelers I don't have a lot of locations. While this is not at the top of my list for places I have dove, and I would not recommend it for a "dive vacation", it was two great days of diving while on a family vacation.

I have some gopro videos and I hope I can get them in a format to post fairly soon.

Thank you Malpaso, I'm going there in 2 weeks with some non-divers also. I know the feeling. What was the water temp? Do you think a 3mm will be enough?

Water temp was anywhere from 84*F at the surface to 73*F at 110'. I rented a wet suit. Originally they said I should use a 5mm but they gave me a 3mm on the first day and a 5mm on the second day. I was fine both days, but I don't get cold, even in New England water in a 7mm. I think if you have a 3mm and could add a vest you'd be just right. One note on sizes if you rent gear, their sizes run very small. I had to use a XXL. My own suit is a L farmer john and an XL shorty.
