Assuming this thread stays on topic, perhaps it should be made a sticky? :dontknow:

I'll add a few:

  • Rhone Man is right - if you have made a point that someone doesn't like, but they can't find fault with it, they will tell you to "do more diving." Ignore these people - share your experiences - they are valid and others may learn from them;
  • Some areas on SB are "flame free" - look at the banner near the top. If you are new to SB, posting in a flame-free zone might make for a more friendly experience. Nevertheless, someone will likely make a stupid joke which is intended to make their response look witty (it often fails) while making you look foolish. Feel free to point out that you are in a flame-free zone and REPORT if necessary;
  • The largest impediment to learning is knowing;

You really don't want to know. :)

.... It's a double opt-in forum deep in the bowels of Scubaboard where Google can't see it where people with rhinoceros hide where you and I have skin go to talk about politics and global warming.

And believe me, few who have entered come out alive :shocked:.

R..

You really don't want to know. :)

It is located under the 'Surface Interval' forum. A few brave souls venture in trying to avoid the politics to marvel at the wonder which here we can only refer to as the HCT. If you ever go into the Pub, it will be apparent what I am referring to.

Leave your ego at the door.

Honest questions, honest answers.

Use a spell checker if you need to ... and you probably need to.

Be humble: Many things you think you know, are wrong.

If your aim is to provoke a fight, make an appointment with your psychiatrist instead.

• Please read through the entire thread before posting.

If you decline to do so, understand that adding the phrase "I don't have time to read the entire thread" is the indicative header of an irrelevant post.

I give up, what is "the Pub"?

The Pub would be like rec.scuba where everyone has dropped E.

Mathematically: Mike Nelson is to Steve Irwin as rec.scuba is to The Pub

Yes some people have really pissed me off on this forum, but...
To be honest I have learned and garnered so much info, from the newest divers to the saltiest pro's, that I am a huge fan of this site.
In a sport with so many inherit dangers involved, knowledge is life saving, and I have found divers to be some of the most helpful people on earth, unless you start discussing "solo" diving that is! :)

Overall good attempt. I think maybe we should add a "survival guide for new ScubaBoard users" to better help navigate these waters.

1) A discussion isn't worth reading until it's been cross-threaded (i.e. the content of the original post deemed entirely incorrect due to incompatible and often incomprehensible reasons which are them promulgated throughout the remainder).

2) The number of 'thanks' a post receives is generally indicative of the number of times a subject has been beat to death. This is particularly true if the thanked post is also the thread starters' Original Post.

3) Each thread has a maximum number of pertinent posts. Once that 'critical mass' has been reached (often around post #2), the thread will explode into a mass of either repetitive or irrelevant drivel. Many 'thanks' will follow.

5) No one on ScubaBoard can count.

6) Everything that can be discussed has been discussed. Consequently, if you have a question, use the search function rather than starting your own thread (after all, bits are a precious commodity). However, do not reply to the thread if it's more than one month old.

:D
