Yum Yum Yellow for shark dives ? :-)

As far as seeing your buddy, that is what a can light and goodman handle is for....instant contact and locationing....Even a normal handheld light can do this, just less conveniently since with a hand held light, you have one hand full.

I wish more people would wear colored gear, for safety reasons. Brightly colored gear means I can identify the other divers. Especially in places like Monterey where the visibility can be really low, I'd rather see my buddy in bright pink than in concealing black!
My last dive you could have been whatever color you like and Id still see nothing but your silhouette if you where more than 3ft away from me.
Fortunately it was much better at depth though..

Oh, yellow jet fins will start appearing pretty soon... but I don't think it will be available for the general public though, thank god.

I can't help to think about all this and all the bizarre colors of gear manufactures come up with, independently they might be fine, but when you see some divers fully dressed looking like a circus clown... what's the expression I'm looking for???

visual pollution

i love the whole black argument thing ..its pretty funny , like some one said here already at one time it WAS all black , im from that era.....but if they want to prentend to be a commando, well ...............................raise your hand join sf like idid they will even lend you the gear .................

As I was reading this, I was thinking what he thought of the fish on an average reef??? Talk about your "noise pollution"!!! :D :D :D

Personally, I think black is not a dark enough color. I want blacker then black.

This is where we break out in song and dance ... with due apologies to the Rolling Stones ...

I see a red wing and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black

I see the strokes walk by dressed in their neon clothes

I have to turn my head because their snorkel glows

I see a line of fins and they’re all painted black

My drysuit came in blue I have to take it back

I see people turn their heads and quickly look away

Like a rant from GI3 it just happens ev’ry day

I look inside my mask and see the skirt is black

I see your white tanks and I want them to be black

Maybe then I’ll fade away and not have to face the facts

It’s hard to find your team when they're all wearing black

No more will my gear come in shades of green or blue

It will be black until they make a darker hue

If I look hard enough with my canister HID

I’ll see the blue H on my teammate's BCD

I see a red wing and I want it painted black

No colors anymore I want them to turn black

I see the strokes walk by dressed in their neon clothes

I have to turn my head because their snorkel glows

Hmm, hmm, hmm,...

I wanna see it painted, painted black

Black as night, black as coal

I wanna see the sun blotted out from the sky

I wanna see it painted, painted, painted, painted black

Yeah!

:D

I like it, NWGD. Next replace "Harvest" for timing frog kicks with Billy Squier's "My kinda lover". Much easier to play back in your head, better timing, and catchy tune. Cool thing is *if you still can't get it* just switch to Billy's other hit, "Stroke".

Anyway, I was at the time both keen as mustard about this new diving thing, and completely frustrated with the SSI classes i'd done. I felt I was passing classes without actually being taught how to be a better diver.

So for me, SB turned me ON to DIR diving. But i've only been here a little while.

I have to agree here. I'm a rescue diver under PADI and when a freind of mine started introducing me to the GUE philosophy (without being a jerk or zealot about it mind you....), my curiousity was piqued. I realized after he showed me just a little of the DIR philosophy that my PADI training didn't teach me ANYTHING about being a better diver...and that's why I went for Rescue training. After that I started doing research on my own and found much of my information about GUE/DIR here on scubaboard. I don't understand why some people would want to put down a system of diving because of a few egotistical people or because of an acronym such as DIR......If you take the time to see what all the hubub is about you will find a learning system that challenges you to be a better diver.....if you're not trying to improve your skills in a sport that can be life threating, why bother...?
Shame on your PADI instructor for not teaching you to be a better diver, I am constantly challenging students to improve their diving, and always tell them that I constantly practice skills, and work to be a better diver . PADI doesn't forbid you from teaching beyond standards, and I do. My interactions with DIR divers is limited, what I have read here, and just a couple of times on charters, other than the "dive my way or die" posts, I have nothing bad to say about them, though I find the DIR term offensive, as if I don't do it their way, I am wrong.
