Good evening all! I recently deployed to Turkey in support of Operation Northern Watch. While there, I persued a desire to take up scuba. I must admit, it's something I've always thought about doing.. they get to carry such cool knives. I'm surprised I actually went through with it though because of my prior overwhelming fear of sharks. I now have 5 Monterey bay dives, and don't really worry about them anymore. Anyways, I have a pretty good gear setup, which I had to scrape pretty hard for! I have a ScubaPro Knightrider BC with AIR 2, MK 25 AF / S600 regulator, Pro Ultra console, twin jet fins, 7 mm titanium wetsuit, and a handfull of retractors, lights and other gizmos. So here I am, introducing myself, I'm Aaron, HI, I've been a dive-aholic for a few months now! I was wondering if anyone could give me insite to a couple of good divespots and such in the monterey area. I've dove carmel river state beach, point lobos, breakwater and attempted lovers cove. Also, I do most of my diving durring the week, since my dive buddy and I have a hard time jiving schedules! Where do people dive durring the week, and are their other divers in the area?

There are quite a few Monterey divers on the board....and many great dive locations in Monterey. you've touched on a few of the good ones.

Do Monestary at some point, but only with someone who is experienced (at least at first...).

yeah, i've heard monestary is pretty nice, but dangerous. i hear there is a really neat cliff edge overlooking the trench, i'm really interested in going there, but don't have the right dive group yet. my buddy and i still young in the water, completely confident in my skills, and equipment, just not very seasoned.. i'll have my chance though.. i just dove point lobos this last thurday, and loved it.. only got to do one dive, due to time restrictions, but that is by far my fav monterey spot so far!

Yes Monestary beach is great but you have to be careful. Sometime it was calm when you start your dive, then big waves appear and trash you around when you try to exit.

Have you tried Lovers Point? Enter the water from the cove, surface swim toward the "point" on your left. Surface swim about 150 yards straight out from the point and drop down to about 50ft bottom. Incredibe! Big boulders, huge sun stars, kelp forest... Lingcod, crabs... I used to do sunset dive there.

I'm available to dive on weekdays sometime. PM me the next time you go, maybe we can bow a few bubbles together.
