Hello all.

After reading a ton of reviews and watching hours of youtube videos, I finally made the decision between gopro/contour HD/and Flip. While I already have a 3rd Gen Flip Ultra HD, I chose to go with the Contour HD for underwater work, simply because of the design, wide angle lens, and quality of video.

Which now puts me in a bind for a housing. 2 choices. Really? No one else makes a housing for this incredible camera? I ponied up $39.95 for the Contour underwater housing for an upcoming trip reef diving in the keys. However, I cannot a) afford or b) justify spending more money on a piece of polycarbonate shaped like my camera with an o-ring that costs more than the camera itself with the GMS concepts H2OV offering.

(GMS, sir, I realize you may be reading this thread and probably WILL be reading this thread)...you have the market cornered, and you know it, and can afford to charge what you want. I submit to you this though...If you charged half of what you are asking you would more than double your quantity of sales. Lots of divers out here KNOW the Contour HD is a better cam, yet cannot justify the excessive extra cost for such a simple housing.

Perhaps even a housing rated to 130' at a lesser cost to consumers. I have no need to dive to 400', and as such have no need for a housing that supports that.

Healthy competition drives prices down. Is there ANYONE out there with access to the kind of tooling/injection molding/whatever processes necessary to make a polycarb or acrylic housing for the contour HD good to 130'?

If anyone else feels the same, please speak up. Perhaps someone will listen.

Thank you.

I'll be heading down to the west end of GC for a business trip April 8 - 14. We were hoping to be able to squeeze in a few shore dives when we have time and I am having trouble finding some information about spots other than the 6 or so that are commonly recommended (Eden's Rock, Devil's Grotto, Turtle farm, Lighthouse, Sunset house, etc.) This is our second time to the island and we have dove most of these places that have the dive shops right there. I am looking for recommendations and information about some of the other places around.

I am interested in Julie's wall/Black forest, but I am having a hard time finding information on how to access it. Same with the Maze, Ghost Mountain, Tarpon Alley, Smith's Cove, Babylon and Armchair Reef. Is it possible to access these areas without a boat? Additionally, last time we were there we tried to dive Turtle farm but the dive shop was under construction. Does anyone know if this area is opened back up? I have read a lot of recommendations for this area...

I am open for recommendations for any other dive spots that are in the area, but keep ones that are very far to a minimum because we are slightly restricted with our time. Thank you so much for your help!!!

Why would you hijack Testpilot's thread with this post, this has nothing to do with what he posted plus this is in the wrong category.
I do not think you will get any responses to your thread in here.

Well, somewhat good news. I dove with the camera today and video'd the wreck of the Islander in Alexandria Bay, NY. Took the Contour HD and VHOLDR housing to 50' with absolutely no issues. Will post video when I'm done editing it. Plan to go again this week or next weekend and just take the housing to 66' and check for leaks/implosion. I'll be happy enough with a 2 ATM housing for $49.

YouTube - New Project 1

Video when I first got in the water is a little jerky and pixelated. Used iMovie to try to stabilize it. which enlarges picture and tries to take motion out. Hands were kinda cold when water first seeped through my 7 mil gloves. Only other post processing is increased red and blue channels by 50% and brightness by 15. As you can see near the end of the video. I successfully took the VHOLDR housing to 50' with no leaks and no implosion. Can't wait to shoot vid in the waters of the Keys.
