Ken, lets get scubasaurus, and do the lake! I'll drag him up with me when, and if he ever comes back to the surface! I think he logs more time than Cousteau did.

billmach:
Reminds me of my final cert dive :D
We were diving in a murky cove in a lake
and I was on my knees waiting for my turn to clear my mask
and had the hand of death happen to me (when the water started to clear a branch
appeared on my left ear) My reaction was to scream and i shot my reg. out of my mouth (poof) but to my surprise at the time i just calmly grabbed my reg and put it back in my mouth. i was soooooo imbarased. my instructor saw it and i thought he was going to wet his shorty he was laughing so hard. but he complimented me after the dive for being calm and doing it right.....
Go get certified! It,s an addiction :crafty:
billmach, that's a good one! new storm, all these 'episodes' are great practice of skills. You'll do similar asst. skills in scuba class. sharky60 basically said it. It's different when you're below the surface with scuba. I don't like murky/ bad vis. I try not to dive in it!!! You get more comfortable with experience. Knowing what to expect at your dive location is part of planning your dive. Shouldn't be too much that'll surprise you or 'freak you out.' Diving within your limits and training is also a rule. You sound like you already have the bug (you were warned of the addiction) :D ........get certified, dive safely, dive often, practice skills too (think of it as a drill- in case of emergeny kind of thing.) Welcome to ScubaBoard, anything about everything scuba related (mostly) is at your finger tips! Oh yeah, SB is addictive too :D

I'm 25. I do realize there are things that are going to happen that are suprising, and I am prepared to face these things. I am not a panicky person and I do well under stress. Yes I will do the intro to scuba first, as should everyone. I am, little by little getting used to suprises under the water. As for the equipment, I am confident that I will be able to handle difficult situations, with the proper training. I know this all sounds wierd, but please dont confuse me with someone who screams bloody murder when something bumps my foot under water. Besides I am super determined to beat this small bump in the road. ;)

I am glad to hear you are determined to be a diver. And I was not trying to put you off it at all. I wish you all the luck in the world. ;)

Now if you are ever in up my way come for a dive.

I had a similar experience at http://www.mermetsprings.com/, and it's embarrassing because I don't mind hogging for catfish in the Mississippi. Mermet has this sunken Boeing 727 in it and I had decided to stick my head through a hole in the fuselage to check out the insides. As soon as I did, I found myself staring down the gaping throat of a large catfish. :11: Scared the bajeebies outta me. I jerked my head out of the hole and was embarrassed to see my dive buddy laughing loudly through his regulator.
Wasn't even bad vis. Maybe 10-15ft. Just one of those surprises that gets me every once in a while.

cobalt babe - Thanks, I know you didnt mean to come off like that. I was just explaining myself as best as I could, no harm done.

Update - Today I bought a new pair of fins: http://www.hollywoodivers.com/Merch...ode=13530&Category_Code=F&Affiliate=divebooty
and some booties to wear with them. I tried them in my pool and am very impressed. They are so comfortable. I am also picking up a new mask this weekend. My Genesis with the purge killed my nose last weekend. I have decided to give my old fins and mask to my girlfriend. She joined me last weekend for some snorkeling and she fell in love with it. I snorkeled the lake near my house 3 times last weekend. On Monday I ran into a huge American eel. At first it startled me, but in seconds I found myself hovering over it in 15' below the surface, snapping pics w/ my disposable camera (which suprisingly didnt take half bad pics). Im finding that things I fear in the water are best to swim towards and prove myself once again there is nothing to fear. I am freakin hooked!! I feel more and more comfortable with every inch of water I cover. This weekend I am going to Lake George to camp. Im bringing my gear with me, so my girl and I can hit the lake for a few hours. I have heard the vis is exellent there. I cant wait to go. I hope to start my course ASAP. Sept is a very busy month for me as is Oct. With cold weather coming after that, would it be worth waiting until spring?
