I am wondering if there is a good second to pair up with an Apeks 1st stage. I am trying to put together a reg for my son and am considering a SP 109, Dive Rite or a new Hog 2nd. Does anyone know how these would work with the Apeks? I could just order a XTX50 for it but that would take the fun out of it. Also looking for a 2nd that I could get parts for.
Thanks

apeks are the easiest regs to get parts for, northeast scuba has them for sale to the public
rebuild kits are universal for all apeks regs too... that being said you wanna buy some of my apeks regs? haha

Someone posted on SB that the HOG first stages are generally set to an ip of 140 psi. I set my Apeks first stage to same ip. This implies that the second stages offered by either company should work on the other's first stages. So, yeah, the HOG second stages should work with the Apeks first stage. HOG rebuild kits can be purchased online. I don't know how well the HOG seconds will hold up over time...but they are relatively inexpensive and the manufacturer seems to provide good support for his products. Probably worth giving it a go.

I have the ATX100 and ATX50 second stages. Love 'em. They work great and are really easy to overhaul. I have no experience with the older Scubapro 109s or the Dive Rite regs. I hear that the 109s are bulletproof, though. :D

Let us know which way you decide to go and how it works out.

With the exception of some very old seconds and Poseidon, you can use pretty much any second with the Apeks. Some will breath better than others due to their design but will do OK. A good 109 will do nicely or if you want new either the HOG or DR would do nicely.
